Challenge/Opportunity
A major baker of par-baked artisan breads was looking to improve efficiency and reduce costs as they grew. At the same time, the company’s focus on premium branded product sales to retail grocers required it to maintain its high quality standards.
Solution
Bay State Milling identified an opportunity to consolidate multiple raw materials for multigrain breads. The bakery had been inventorying and blending four ingredients at its facility: bran, wheat germ, rolled oats and flaxseed. Bay State
Milling presented them with a cost-effective plan to blend these ingredients at their own facility.
Results
By moving the blending operation to Bay State Milling’s plant, the bakery reduced its inventory, lowered the number of production errors at its plant, improved ordering efficiency and ultimately produced a higher yield, without making any product quality concessions. |
